Most “LLC cost” pages show the state fee and stop. The number that matters is the three-year total: state fee, formation service, registered agent, EIN service and the annual plan that renews whether you remember it or not. This calculator adds those lines and lets you replace every default with your own quote.

Build your estimate

Start with a state and a provider. The defaults come from the public prices checked on 22 October 2026; change any field to match a quote, a promotion or a service you already have. The calculator runs entirely in your browser and stores nothing.

1. Choose a state
State figures are from the official fee schedules linked below.
2. Choose a formation service
The defaults below update when you change the provider. Every number stays editable.
3. Adjust the numbers
Some packages include the first year. If yours does not, enter the annual fee.
Tailor Essential and doola Starter renew annually; Northwest and Firstbase do not have a mandatory annual plan.
No public fixed price is used here. Enter a quote if you have one, otherwise leave 0.
Mail forwarding, notarisation, translations, courier.

    What the defaults include

The calculator is a planning tool, not a quote. Provider prices and state fees change.

    Three worked examples

    1. The lean Wyoming LLC

Wyoming ($100) + Northwest ($39) + registered agent included in year one + no EIN service = $139 in year one. Year two: $60 state + $125 agent = $185. Three-year total: $509. If you add the $50 EIN service, year one is $189 and the three-year total is $559.

This is the lowest realistic package for a European founder who wants a mainstream state and a provider that handles the agent. It assumes you are comfortable with the IRS phone/fax route or that you pay the $50 EIN service.

    2. The low-maintenance New Mexico LLC

New Mexico ($50) + Northwest ($39) + agent ($125) + EIN ($50) = $264 in year one. Year two: $0 state + $125 agent = $125. Three-year total: $514. The three-year total is almost identical to Wyoming, but the yearly cost after year one is lower and the annual state filing disappears. The trade-off is provider familiarity and the $2 portal fee some filers report.

    3. The Delaware “startup default”

Delaware ($70) + Firstbase ($99 promotional) + agent ($299) + EIN included = $468 in year one. Year two: $400 state + $299 agent = $699. Three-year total: $1,866 at the promotional price. At Firstbase's $399 list price, year one is $768 and the three-year total is $2,166. Delaware is not inherently a bad choice; it is a $400-a-year choice, and the calculation should be explicit.

What the calculator deliberately leaves out

    • US tax filing. Form 5472 and the pro forma 1120 are not included in formation packages. A US accountant may charge separately; get a quote.
    • EU tax and VAT advice. Your home-country return is a separate professional cost.
    • Mail forwarding and virtual offices. Add them if a bank or platform requires a US address.
    • Sales tax registration and payroll. These depend on where you sell and whether you hire.
    • Travel, notarisation and translations. Some banks ask for certified documents; costs vary by country.
    • VAT on provider fees. EU customers may be charged VAT; the calculator uses the list price before tax.

    How to read the result

Focus on the year 2 onward number, not the year-one headline. A provider can make year one look cheap with a promotional formation fee while the agent renewal or annual plan is the real cost. The three-year total is the honest comparison, and even that understates the cost if you forget a tax filing.

If the difference between two options is small, choose the one with the clearer renewal terms and the better answer on the EIN. A $20 saving is not worth a provider that cannot explain what happens when the IRS asks a question.

    Frequently asked

Does the calculator include state fees?
Yes. The state filing fee and the annual state cost are separate editable lines. The defaults use the 2026 published figures for Wyoming, Delaware, New Mexico and Florida.
Why is the three-year total higher than the first-year price?
Because the first year often includes a promotional formation fee and an included agent, while later years include the state annual cost, the agent renewal and any annual plan. The calculator shows year one, year two onward and the three-year total separately.
    Does it include tax filing?
No. Form 5472, the pro forma 1120, US state tax returns and your EU tax return are outside the calculator. Add a separate line for your accountant's quote if you have one.
Can I use my own provider?
Yes. Choose “File it yourself” and enter the formation, agent and EIN costs you were quoted. Every field is editable, including the state fee.
Does the calculator store my numbers?
No. It runs in your browser with vanilla JavaScript and does not use cookies, local storage or network requests.
